Sugata Bose is an Indian historian and politician. After studying at Presidency University, Kolkata he completed his PhD at the University of Cambridge. Subsequently, he became a professor at Tufts University. In 2001 he became the first historian to be appointed to the Gardiner Chair of Oceanic History and Affairs who did not specialise in the Western Hemisphere. His books include His Majesty’s Opponent: Subhas Chandra Bose and India’s Struggle against Empire and A Hundred Horizons: the Indian Ocean in the Age of Global Empire. He is currently working on a book about Asia after Europe, and works as a General Editor on The Cambridge History of the Indian Ocean.
